                                    Steelhead–Steelhead-Steelhead

I am focusing all my guiding during Janauary and February on steelhead on West End rivers. All my trips are walk-and-wade, although the spots we fish are seldom more than a half mile from the road. I concentrate on the Sol Duc, Calawah, Bogachiel and Hoh rivers. We typically fish several rivers each day and employ a variety of lines, fly types and presentations. Cost for one or two anglers is $350. Lunch included.

Autumn Clinics

Monday, September 10th, 2007

West End Weekend, October 5-7, 2007–This seminar provides intensive instruction on summer steelhead and sea-run cutthroat fly fishing on the rivers of the Olympic Peninsula’s “West End.” It is designed for mid-level fly fishers who want to expand and refine their skills. For anglers unfamiliar with the West End, it also serves as an introduction to the celebrated coastal rivers–the Hoh, Bogachiel, Sol Duc and Calawah–during autumn. The seminar begins with an an optional hot dog roast near La Push on Friday evening, and anglers who arrive early can fish the lower Sol Duc, Bogachiel, Dickey and Quillayute rivers, which are within a few miles. Saturday morning focuses on the wet fly swing and floating line on the upper Hoh, then we move to the lower river and discuss sink-tips in the afternoon. We conclude the field portion of Saturday on the Bogachiel. After a break, we will meet near La Push Saturday evening for dinner and a fly tying and pattern discussion. Sunday morning we emphasize waking, skating and the riffled hitch on the Sol Duc, then move to the Calawah for an examination of the greased line. The seminar will conclude by 1pm on Sunday, giving anglers time to make late afternoon ferries. Cost–$400, includes Saturday dinner. Limited to 6. Accommodation referrals available.

Summer Guiding Schedule

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

prices for 1 or 2 anglers; lunch included.

Quillayute System Steelhead and Cutthroat

Fish away from the roads on the Calawah, Bogachiel and Sol Duc. We will work the soft water for cutts and the slots and tail-outs for steelhead. During the course of the day, we will swing traditional wet flies, wake hair wings, and fish the greased line. Modest hiking and wading ability necessary. $350.

Saltwater Cutthroat on Admiralty Inlet/Hood Canal

Ranging from 10- to 18-plus inches, sea-run cutthroat are taken from gravel beaches, spits and estuaries during summer. We will fish a variety of lines and patterns and visit a number of different beachs during the course of the day. $325. Cabin rental on one mile of private beach optional.

My Favorite Trout Water

These trips let you fish the spots I go to when I want to get away from the big water and other anglers. I only offer this during summer and fall, and only book two trips each season. Depending on the season, we will fish secluded cutthroat pools, tidewater creeks, beaver ponds and saltwater beaches. All destinations require walking but there is no bushwhacking or particularly strenuous hiking. $350.
